What Walter Russell Mead calls the Blue Social Model has been breaking down over the last three decades.  The passage of the Affordable Care Act (aka “ObamaCare”) is hastening this decline, which will result in eventual collapse of the social welfare state.

In other words, we are approaching the end of the road for the current political order.

The larger implications of ObamaCare’s mutliple failures are illustrated in this article from Investor’s Business Daily.  The takeaway sentence sums it up best:

Since failure is often the best teacher, the ObamaCare fiasco may well catalyze a broad renaissance of appreciation for the power and virtue of self-reliance and choice that only the free market provides.

As preppers, its wise of us to take reality into account as we make our plans.  The current political model is unsustainable and will end in some fashion.  My hope is that it is an orderly collapse that can be managed and not cause undue interruptions, but there will be pain associated with this transition.  The objective of all preparedness-minded citizens is to become more self-reliant since governments at all levels won’t be able to provide various services.  This will eventually lead to smaller government and a return to a more free marketplace.

Remember that communism wasn’t “Too Big To Fail” and neither is the social welfare state.  Plan accordingly…
