A digital combo lock is a great tool for securing doors, whether they are for entry ways or a secure room.  They are a great way to add an additional layer of security, hardening your home against intruders.

A few years ago, I purchased a Kwikset SmartCode digital deadbolt lock for my safe room.  The goal was to both increase the security of that room without making it more difficult to access.  This particular product was a great solution to my requirements for safety with accessibility.

The lock itself can be unlocked with either a key or the digital keypad.  When the keypad is used, the deadbolt will retract once the correct combination is entered.  The key will manually open the lock just like a normal deadbolt.  This is a good redundancy feature because sometimes the four AA batteries will go dead with the lock engaged.  Installation takes only slightly longer than normal due to the size of the digital lock.  All the dimensions are the same as a regular lock so there is no additional drilling.

I put this lock on my safe room because I want my firearms and other critical items as secure as possible.  This lock makes it easy for me to lock and unlock it, meaning I have access to this room when I need it.  While I don’t have children in the house, a digital combo lock would be a great item to use in securing potentially hazardous equipment from unauthorized users.  Its a great addition to my house and I am glad I got one installed.  Keep this in mind when you are looking at hardening your home.
