I was recently out of the country on vacation and was able to relax for a couple of weeks. During that time however, I was reminded about how important it is to be prepared regardless of where you are. In particular, I am thankful I carry a light source like this in my back pack.

The story is a simple one yet illustrates why its important to have a flashlight with you at all times. One night, a power spike caused a light to explode and trip all the circuit breakers in the flat I was staying in. After I brushed the shards of glass off me, I carefully walked over to my backpack and took out my Pelican PM6 3330 LED flashlight. The light allowed me and my host to begin assessing the problem and check the other circuits. It took about an hour but eventually everything was fixed, all the breakers were reset, and the broken light bulb assembly removed from the fixture.

Remember that interruptions can take place anytime and anywhere so its wise to be prepared. One doesn’t have to carry a Go Bag full of exotic equipment or stuffed full or emergency supplies, start with the basics. Having at least two light sources, a pen, an emergency whistle, and a few other items is a good start.

Never underestimate how important having a light source (or two) is, even on vacation.
