I admit, I have always had a thing for Leatherman multi-tools. So you can imagine how happy I was to receive a Leatherman Rebar for Christmas. This is one of the tools I have had my eye on for a while since I wanted to add one to my inventory. Now that I’ve had it for a while and used it a few times, let me share my thoughts on it.
When I saw that Leatherman was no longer making their PST, I was bummed because I liked mine so much. Having a Rebar makes me forget all about my previous disappointment. The main reason is that it packs a lot of tools into a full-size package that are practical for most users. I keep mine around the house so the knives and screwdrivers get used the most. However, if I take it camping with me in the future, the saw and openers will be appreciated. Leatherman also has the hinge mechanism figured out, which is why the pliers/wire cutter works so well.
It is a full-size multi-tool and is made from quality materials, meaning it will last a long time. This is important because Leatherman products are more expensive than other brands, but you get what you pay for. I’ve had my PST for over twenty years and I intend on keeping this one a long time. The Leatherman Rebar is also Made in the USA, which is important to me as an American. I strongly believe it is important for free people to use tools made by other free people, therefore I am proud to own this tool.
In time, I will get additional ones to go in my car kits and keep one around the house. I really like the combination of size, quality, and tools that make the Rebar what it is. If you are looking for a new multi-tool and have the money, consider this one. The bottom line is this is a fantastic multi-tool.
Pros: Great packaging and combination of useful tools. Quality is outstanding and everything feels solid.
Cons: Kinda big and heavy, not enough to be a problem though.
Overall Rating: 9/10
