Looks like armed citizens in Detroit are defending themselves with firearms, which has led to more dead criminals and less crime.  While the media talking heads and politicians are busy pontificating, good people have stood up and decided to take ownership of their safety.  Detroit Chief of Police said that the crime rate would be lowered if more “good Americans” were armed.

I see this as a good sign because people taking ownership and assuming responsibility is a good outcome.  The more citizens become involved, the more communities will become restored as people band together.  In the case of Detroit and other cities, this is because government has failed to provide essential services to its customers, the taxpayer.  While this has shown a breakdown in governance, it also shows that regular people will fill some of the voids left behind by bankrupt municipalities.

You are your own first responder and have a duty to prepare yourself and your family for emergencies.  This doesn’t mean preparing for the Apocalypse or a societal collapse, it means being ready for everyday events that can cause harm.  Assaults, burglaries, armed robbery, stabbings, kidnappings, theft, and other crimes are just a sample of events that happen everyday to ordinary people.  Prepare for these events first and you will go a long way towards taking ownership of your life and improving your community.  It starts with good citizens deciding to make a stand; step up and make a commitment like good, law-abiding citizens have in Detroit.
