I’ve said it for years now the DHS agrees with me, don’t use Internet Explorer!

As an IT professional, there are a lot of good reasons I can give you to avoid using Microsoft’s web browser.  It doesn’t mean I am a Microsoft-hater (I was an MCSE back in the day), its just that Internet Explorer always seems to have problems.  This time, there is a vulnerability that allows a corrupted Adobe Flash file to take over a user’s computer.  As of today (Tuesday April 29, 2014) there is no code fix for this vulnerability.

The smart thing to do now is:

  • User an alternate browser (e.g. Firefox)
  • Disable Adobe Flash within Internet Explorer (all Windows computers come with IE pre-installed)
  • Check for updates from Microsoft on a regular basis and install them

Keeping your computer safe and secure is an important part of being prepared.  Consider the information that is on your computer or that you access through it.  So take computer security seriously and take action today to protect yourself.
